In this new blog from the ‘Career Insights’ series we talk to Davide Tarantola, Arithmos’ Business Development Manager, to find out more about his background, career path, and his interests outside of work.
Hello Davide! Have you always been interested in Life Sciences?
Yes, I have always been interested in Life Sciences because I saw it as a way to improve human health. My father was a firefighter, and he was always telling these stories about how they were saving people’s lives. This was incredibly inspiring! I grew up wanting to make a difference. Life Sciences empowers us to develop novel therapeutics and innovative medical devices, and I am happy to be part of this industry.
What has been your journey to your current role in Arithmos?
I started my career in Life Sciences as a CSV specialist and Data Manager. After I was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering by Politecnico di Milano, I worked in an operational position in a Life Sciences technology provider company before moving into the Sales department.
When I was offered to join Arithmos, I could not resist this new challenge. The company is growing and expanding internationally, and I was excited to be part of such a dynamic and innovative environment.
Can you describe to us your typical workday in Arithmos?
My day starts with my to-do list! My secret is to keep a track of the daily and weekly tasks and also set priorities. Arithmos is very dynamic – there are always new ideas to try and next tasks to add to my to-do list. That is why efficient planning is vital.
Another must-have on my agenda is the meetings with clients. In Arithmos, we believe in customised solutions for each client. That is why we work closely with each of them to find a solution that fits them the best.
What do you think makes Arithmos special as technology expert in Life Sciences?
The fact that we are not just a technology company! The combination of Life Science, technology, and processes knowledge is our big strength.
What are the main trends to watch in 2021 when it comes to technology in Life Sciences?
The COVID-19 pandemic showed us the importance of technology in Life Sciences especially when it comes to the management of an emergency. I personally watch closely two trends:
- Wearables and ePRO: these solutions allow us to collect a huge amount of data, which would not normally be collected. These new data can lead to a better understanding of disease variability, responses to treatment along with reduced healthcare costs, and greater efficiency in conducting clinical trials. In addition, these data could help to draft a personalised treatment for the patients, based on their lifestyle.
- System integration: In order to collect data from different sources (EDC, wearables, mobile apps), it is necessary to integrate different technological solutions and build a new system that sometimes is extremely complex. That is why now we witness a growing understanding of the importance of system integration for the success of clinical trials and interest in this topic.
What are your values?
Honesty and respect. In my opinion, these are essential values for building a successful relationship with clients and partners. When it comes to my job, creating a relationship based on honesty and respect is the first point in establishing a good collaboration.
What do you love to do in your spare time?
I am a movie enthusiast, especially when it comes to Hollywood movies from the 80s and 90s.
My other great passion is Japanese martial arts, in particular Aikido, which I have practiced for nineteen years, participating in numerous seminars throughout Europe. I was lucky to travel all around France, Spain, Switzerland, and Italy!
Last, but not least – travelling! My latest adventure was a solo backpack trip in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Can’t wait for the next one!
