This is the new blog in our ‘Career Insights’ series and we spoke to Andrea Berardi, seQure (the business unit of Arithmos)’s Senior GxP Consultant & Auditor and CSV Consultant, to find out more about his job, career path, achievements, and his hobbies.
Have you always been passionate about Life Sciences field?
I can certainly say that I have. In fact, after graduation, I wanted to work as a neuroscience researcher. However, after a while, I decided to opt for working in the dynamic environment of a private company and it fits my character the best.
How did you identify QA as the right career for you?
I started working in QA by pure chance – at my first workplace, I was asked to cover a vacant job position. But now I can say that it was love at first sight. I am a precise person with a highly analytical mind, work in QA is a perfect fit for me.
What has been your journey to your current role at seQure?
During my PhD, I realised that a research career did not interest me so much. I started looking for an alternative career that could be exciting and satisfying at the same time, and that is when I thought about a career in clinical research.
Even before my Ph.D. graduation ceremony, I decided to attend a course dedicated to clinical research. Right after finishing the course, I had an opportunity to start working in a consultancy firm based in Rome covering the role of Pharmacovigilance Quality Assurance specialist. I had been working there for almost 4 years before I decided to join seQure, because it could give me the possibility to expand my professional horizons.
What do you enjoy the most about working within this field?
Working towards improvement. For me working in QA is extremely rewarding, especially when it comes to audits because it is a chance to help someone to excel. During the audit, I always encourage a cooperative approach, because I know how much pressure the audits put on the auditees. I also focus not on what is wrong, but on what can be improved.
What would be your top tips for early-career specialists looking to develop in QA?
Be humble, flexible, and open-minded. Regulations and standards are always evolving, and I think a good QA should learn to cope with regulatory demands by finding the best approach to apply based on the business reality you are dealing with.
What are your personal values?
Honesty and confidence, which in a way are two sides of the same medal.

What are your main interests outside of work?
I have loads of interests outside work. I like traveling and photography, two passions that I share with my wife. Additionally, I am a proud homebrewer – I make my own beer at home. Finally, I used to develop software as I am an autodidact JAVA developer. Unfortunately, I almost abandoned this hobby due to the lack of time.
